Flexi Schooling and Montessori

Homeschoolers - we can be your partners. "There are lots of societies without schools, but never any without homes." John Holt 1980

Home schooling is on the rise - for good and bad reasons.

It is unfortunate that homeschooling is often a response to problems at school, because home schooling can be and should be a positive choice for many pupils.

The great educator John Holt coined the term flexi-schooling - which we like. It captures the possibilities of home and school working in harmony, together.

To quote John Holt "The proper relationship of the schools to home is the relationship of the library to home, or the skating rink to home. It is a supplementary resource."

We believe Montessori methods are especially appropriate for flexi-schooling:

  • Montessori methods are inherently flexible. Dr Montessori believed that children should be learning what they are motivated to learn when the are motivated to learn it. So the Montessori day is not sliced up into subjects and the school can focus on what you and your child need, when you need it.

  • Montessori methods can be employed at home. We can help you with training and materials to be an effective facilitator of your child's learning away from the school.

  • Montessori is inherently multi age group - so your child can be working and socialising with a healthy mix of children of different ages and abilities.
